Jimmy Carter, President

Jimmy Carter Library and Museum

On a “Girls’ Night Out” weekend to see the Atlanta Braves, I decided to work into our schedule a trip to the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, and I’m glad I did.

I didn’t remember much about the time Jimmy Carter was our 39th president.  I certainly wasn’t old enough to vote (in case you’re wondering about my age - LOL).  There are some things I do remember:  the peanut, his daughter Amy, big pretty teeth, and hostages.

Such a sweet couple!!!  They still are.
Since I’m older now and understand some things better, it’s time I learn as much as I can about the REAL Jimmy Carter.

His Presidential Library is at 441 Freedom Parkway, Atlanta, GA.

This coat is in the museum.  According to my mom, she was very classy for the times.

The Library had a wonderful video, not very long, inside a cool theater.  Don't underestimate that on a June day in the South.  We read through many rooms of photos, artifacts like letters and clothing, and the projects President Carter was partial to. One in particular was Habitat for Humanity.  He is 86 years old at the time we visited his museum, and he and his wife, Rosalynn, were still active in the building of homes for others.  Amazing man!

Working hard, still.

They do most things together.  <3

Some interesting facts:

* He was the first president born in a hospital.  He was born in the hospital where his mother worked as a nurse.

* He founded The Carter Center which addresses national and international issues of public policy.

* He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

* He has FOUR children - 3 sons and a daughter.  I only knew about Amy.

* He still teaches Sunday School at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, GA.
